Punditish III: The Resurrection
It's been awhile since I've blogged, but your faithful Punditish can't stay away forever. The fervent primary season has awoken him from his political slumber. Or something.

Wherefore Art Thou, Punditish?
Roger Clemens has nothing on me. Yes, I'm going to start blogging again. Or, at least, that's the plan. My readers (both of you) know how that's worked out in the past, however. Unlike Clemens (and Michael Jordan, for that matter), my myriad of comebacks are purely hypothetical.

"So, Here We Are; On the Blog Again"
Yes, I'm back(ish). At least for the time being. As you (my lone reader) may have guessed, offline concerns have conspired to keep me from this blog. I blame the Patriot Act.
Hopefully the new, more autonomous Punditish will prove more consistent.

Return Imminent
Alas, offline concerns occasionally overwhelm my desire and/or ability to blog regularly. Rest assured, however, that I continue to formulate pundit-like commentary on most of the day's major events, and should find the time to regularly share it with both my visitors in a couple of weeks (hopefully sooner).
Until then...

Coalition of the Chillin' - Media Update
Just when you thought it couldn't get any bigger, The "Coalition of the Chillin'" breaks into the mainstream media.
Both the Coalition and its founder, Mark Coffey of Decision '08, were put front-and-center on CNN's "Inside the Blogs" segment earlier today. Ryan James has a partial transcript:
CNN's "Inside the Blogs" - June 6th, 2005 JACKI SCHECHNER, BLOG REPORTER: That's a good tease, because we're going to get that out in a minute. But with the Senate back in session, we just wanted to bring this up. You may remember before the break that a lot of the blogs were up in arms over the bipartisan deal, but not all of them.
And some of the ones who refused to get all worked up over the filibuster deal called themselves the Coalition of the Chillin'. And a list of those over at decision08.blogspot.com. As Instapundit's logo puts it, they are the ones dedicated to the proposition that the world did not end on May 23rd, 2005.
I don't usually watch the segment, but just happened to be tuned in when it came on, and was pleasantly surprised. I quickly fired an email off to Mark to congratulate him, assuming he probably already knew.
Apparently not.
Congrats to Mark and the rest of the Coalition. And a big "harumph" to the Incensed Conservative and the rest of that ilk.

An Open Reply to the "Incensed Conservative"
I got an interesting email today that I assume was also sent to the other members (official or otherwise) of Mark Coffey's "The Coalition of the Chillin'." Here it is in full:
Jeff MacMillan - May 30th, 2005 Hello member of the "Bend Over" Coalition,
I still remember and I will continue to remember the nimrod 7 that assaulted their base with the compromise, destroying the vote that we all were expecting and fought for.
It is so much fun to see that us conservatives are continually assaulted over and over again as a new BEND OVER conservative surfaces on the blog rolls.
The coalition of the "Bend Over" Club seems to think it was about everything and anything not having to do with the filibustering of Judicial nominees. This to me is the end product of our ignorant school systems not teaching people about basic, common, human decency. Our conservatives and myself fought for this filibuster vote.
I fought for it and I fought for it and I fought for it and I fought for it and you want to just bend over!?
Well you know what?? I CAN'T and I WON'T disrespect myself for a lousy political party.
But.. fine.. Your entitled to toss what's left of your human deceny out of the window.
Enjoy!
Jeff MacMillan
Incensed Conservative
My reply:
Punditish - May 31st, 2005 As far as I can make out, you've made no actual argument here. You're simply expressing disagreement in a somewhat vulgar, certainly disrespectful, manner. Unless you have some new, compelling argument to demonstrate that the Republican party got fleeced, I'd ask you not to waste my time. And if you do have such an argument, you're only undermining it by trying to make a political failing (if it is one) a matter of "human decency." It's called perspective; I suggest you accquire some of it.
A heated topic, to be sure, and one that threatens to divide conservatives. Tell me, Jeff; how has this sort of rigidity on controversial issues (such as abortion) benefitted the Democratic party over the last decade or so?
Anyone else who wishes to weigh in knows where to find me.

The Coalition of the Chillin'
Kudos to Mark Coffey of Decision '08 for his rather ingenious idea to form what he calls the "The Coalition of the Chillin'."
Originally based around the idea that the recent compromise on fillibusters wasn't the end of the world, Mark has more recently expressed hope that all involved can band together again "when rhetoric gets overblown." Count me in, Mark, with the suggestion that every member condemn any mention of or illusion to Hitler, Stalin, or Nazi Germany, whether it comes from Robert Byrd or Rick Santorum. This kind of thing won't stop unless those who engage in it are called out on it by their own supporters.

Happy Birthday To Mark
Mark Coffey of Decision '08 has a birthday tomorrow, and is thanking up a storm. Mark enjoys U2 and long walks through the blogosphere, as is evidenced by the massive number of thank-yous in the post above.
Happy Birthday, Mark.

Technical Problems Resolved
Sorry for the downtime today. I hope my dozens and dozens of readers were not overly frustrated by the technical problems the site was experiencing. All's well now, though.

Summerblogging
Baseball season, The West Wing and various work-related responsibilities have conspired to keep me blogless over much of the last week. Should be back to normal, now, despite the warm summer weather beckoning me to go outside. Must...resist...pull of...evil...sunlight...

Behold the "Decisalanche"
Mark Coffey of Decision '08 has a pretty good sense of humor about these sorts of things:
Mark Coffey - March 30th, 2005 Decisalanche – Rarely noticed...a link from my own blog, Decision ’08, results in an estimated 3 – 5 unique visitors. Valued slightly higher than a trip to the dentist or a kick in the pants...
In all fairness, it's more like a dozen.
We incredibly talented (but still toiling in obscurity) bloggers must stick together. Both our readers are counting on us.

Happy Easter everyone. Back tomorrow.

Best of the Blogosphere: March 17th, 2005
Light day today; back to regular tomorrow. In the meantime, here are a few items of note:- Power Line has several examples of reporters blatantly editorializing within their questions to the President, rather than, you know, afterwards.
- Markos Moulitsas is more or less losing his mind over Bush's choice of Paul Wolfowitz to head the World Bank. Predictably, he lists the costs of the war, but not the benefits, presumably because he knows the latter is beginning to dwarf the former.
- Andrew Sullivan is still phoning it in.
- Speaking of Sullivan, Professor Stephen Bainbridge takes issue with his characterization of the iPod, which I mildly fisked last month. We disagree with him for different reasons, however.
- Mark Coffey rips into Oliver Willis with an awful lot of those hyperlink thingies.
Okay, so it's a pretty sparse "best of." But it's the first, so what'd you expect? As George Carlin says, "As a matter of principle, I never attend the first annual anything." You just read this, though, so unfortunately you can't say the same.

Powerline vs. Punditish?
It's an epic battle for pundit supremacy, except they don't know we exist.
First, the good folks at Power Line posted a fisking of an article on Social Security exactly 8 minutes after this entry (doing the same thing) went up.
A few days later, we posted a piece titled Define the Word "Worked" in response to a claim about Iraqi sanctions. One week later, my new arch-nemesis weighs in on a slightly similar subject with a post titled Define "Working".
I'd have half a mind to toss out an accusation of plagiarism if I were not so thoroughly convinced that the writers of Power Line have absolutely, positively no idea who I am.
UPDATE: Lorie Byrd over at PoliPundit had something similar happen. Hmmm...

Sickblogging
So sorry for the sporadic updates over the last couple of days; I've been a bit under the weather. Should be back to normal in a day or two.

Mild-Mannered Blogger By Day...
Has anyone noticed that an unusual number of bloggers have names that read an awful lot like superhero secret identities? Hugh Hewitt? Michelle Malkin? Jeff Jarvis? Ann Althouse? They all follow that grand alliterative superhero tradition. And doesn't Glenn Reynolds have a bit of a Peter Parker thing going on?

You decide. They are both photographers, though. Has anyone ever seen them in the same place at the same time? Can we safely assume that Ted Rall is Doctor Octupus?

Wiki War
There's a war going on over at Wikipedia, and La Shawn Barber's right in the middle of it.
Nobody asked me for my opinion, but here it is: Wikipedia, indeed, is not to be used as an advertising medium. However, Barber clearly qualifies as someone of significance in the blogosphere, and thus Wikipedia benefits from including basic biographical information about her. Isn't that the whole idea: to build a genuinely comprehensive encylopedia?
The sooner people get used to the idea that bloggers can wield journalist-like influence, the better.

Welcome to Punditish
No, my name is not "Ish." The title of this site refers to the fact that I am, unlike those you find under the blogroll to the right of this entry, not yet a complete blog-based life form. I am but a blog fetus in the great Womb of the Internet, which has given birth to so many before me. As such, I could be aborted at any moment by the Physician of Collective Opinion.
I'm starting to sound like Iowahawk now, so on with the show. Enjoy the site. I know I will.
